I'm sharing but don't see anyone nearby
For someone to appear, they also have to be sharing within about 100 feet of you. Both phones need Bluetooth and location turned on, and the app open. If a friend is right next to you and still invisible, double-check that they've tapped Start Sharing too.
Why does NEAR need Bluetooth?
Bluetooth Low Energy is how NEAR detects other NEAR users physically around you — it's the core of the whole app. Without it, there's no way to know who's nearby.
Why does NEAR need location?
To back up the Nearby list through our server for the moments when Bluetooth alone can't reach. We don't track your location continuously and we don't store any location history — it's only used while you're actively sharing.
How do I add a social like Snapchat or Discord?
Open Edit Profile (tap your photo, bottom-right) → Add Platform, then pick the network and enter your handle.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings (gear, bottom-left) → Delete Account. This is permanent — your profile is purged immediately and clears from backups within 30 days.
Someone is harassing me through NEAR
Email support@getnear.app with the details. We take this seriously and will act on it.
Can people see me if I'm not sharing?
No. Your profile only broadcasts when you tap Start Sharing. The rest of the time you're invisible to everyone.
Does NEAR work without WiFi or cell signal?
Bluetooth discovery works offline. Server features — login, photo upload, and pins — need an internet connection.
What devices are supported?
iOS 14+. Android is on the roadmap.
